World of Latin Percussion
In “World of Latin Percussion,” Diaspora Drumming introduces audiences to percussion instruments from Latin America, including: congas, bongos, claves, bells, surdos, timbau, caixa, and marimba. These traditional instruments are played collaboratively, creating intricate rhythmic patterns that interweave with songs and improvisation. Audiences are enchanted as they experience this deeply rooted music!

Echoes of Africa
“Echoes of Africa” takes audiences on a journey from Guinea and Ghana in West Africa to Cuba, Mexico, and Brazil in the New World, following the paths of instruments and musical styles along the way. Performing traditional music on authentic instruments from three continents, members of Diaspora Drumming introduce listeners to pattern-based percussion, improvisation, and musical call-and-response. This exciting performance culminates in a group Brazilian carnival dance!

World Drumming Workshops
Ringo Brill brings over twenty years of experience studying, teaching, and performing percussion music of West Africa and the Diaspora to Western New York classrooms and community spaces. With his expert and enthusiastic instruction, participants learn traditional rhythms on authentic djembe drums and accessory percussion. Ringo’s fun and engaging workshops incorporate group cooperation, rhythmic coordination, and improvisation.
